Glass Preparation and Cutting
The journey begins with selecting optimal glass lites, which can include various types such as clear, low-iron, tinted, reflective, tempered, or even printed glass, depending on the IGU's desired properties.
These glass panes are then precisely cut to the required dimensions using advanced automated cutting tables. Accuracy at this stage is critical for the seamless assembly and sealing of the final unit.
For any glass that features low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings, a precise "edge deletion" process is performed. This involves removing a narrow strip of the metallic coating around the perimeter of the glass where the sealant will adhere, ensuring a strong, direct bond between the sealant and the glass.

After cutting, the edges of the glass lites are meticulously seamed or ground. This removes any sharp edges, preventing potential stress points that could compromise the glass's integrity and ensuring safety during handling and assembly.
The glass panes then proceed through an automated washing and drying system. This step is paramount to remove all dust, debris, and impurities, as even microscopic particles could lead to visual defects or compromise the integrity of the sealed unit, potentially causing fogging or seal failure over time. The glass must be perfectly clean and dry before assembly.

Millet Glass Industry exclusively utilizes advanced Kömmerling 4SG warm-edge spacers as the critical component to maintain the precise gap between the glass panes. These cutting-edge spacers are specifically designed to significantly reduce thermal bridging (heat transfer) at the edges of the IGU, further enhancing insulation performance.
The Kömmerling 4SG spacers are precisely cut and shaped to size, and a high-performance desiccant (moisture-absorbing material) is homogeneously integrated within the material of the spacer itself to absorbs any residual moisture trapped within the airspace, preventing condensation or fogging inside the sealed unit throughout its lifespan.
Essentially, Kömmerling 4SG itself acts as the primary moisture and gas barrier. It is applied as a hot-melt, thermoplastic material directly to the glass, and its unique composition (polyisobutylene with integrated desiccant) fulfills the role of both the spacer and the primary seal.

Thermal treatment is a critical process in the production of high-performance Insulated Glass Units (IGUs) at Millet Glass Industry. While the core IGU assembly focuses on creating a sealed, insulating airspace, the individual glass lites within that unit often require thermal processing to meet specific strength, safety, and durability requirements. Millet Glass Industry offers two primary thermal treatments for the glass used in its IGUs:
Tempered
Tempered
Process: After glass lites are cut and processed for an IGU (including edge deletion for Low-E coatings), they undergo the tempering process. This involves heating the glass to approximately 1200°F (650°C) and then rapidly cooling it with controlled air blasts.
Benefits for IGUs
Enhanced Safety: Tempered glass is 4 to 5 times stronger than annealed glass. If a tempered IGU lite breaks, it shatters into small, relatively harmless granular pieces, significantly reducing the risk of injury. This is crucial for IGUs used in safety glazing locations (e.g., doors, sidelites, large windows close to the floor) or in areas prone to high wind loads.
Increased Thermal Stress Resistance: Tempered glass exhibits superior resistance to thermal shock, which is vital for IGUs that might experience large temperature differentials across their surfaces (e.g., dark-tinted or reflective glass exposed to direct sunlight).
